About QLL
What is it?
The Basics of State Legislature
The important events in the timeline of a measure are the two "Third Readings" that occur. During the third readings, the house/senate votes on whether or not the bill will pass. The best time to contact your representatives is sometime before these votes. QLL will tell you who is the best of your two representatives to contact depending on where the bill is in the timeline. You will find the measures that are scheduled for a third reading in the "Upcoming Votes" section of the Legislation page. You can also check for third readings on the Schedule page.
Committees
Quoting the Oregon Legislature site: Committees are made up of small groups of legislators from both political parties, who deal with related issues such as transportation, revenue, education, labor and economic development. House and Senate committee members, committee chairpersons and vice chairpersons are appointed by their respective presiding officers. The committee chairperson has the power to determine which measures will be on the committee's agenda. The chair also directs the committee's staff and presides over its deliberations. In some instances, the committee chair may also appoint subcommittees.
You can view all committees in the committees dashboard. On the committee page, you can see what measures are currently sponsored by the committee, its members, and its upcoming meetings. Click on a meeting date to view the items on the agenda
Public Hearings and Submitting Testimony
Another way for citizens to get involved is to attend public hearings and submit testimony. For more information visit the Oregon legislation website.
Quinn's Legislative Lookup is meant to be a tool to help people in Oregon better understand and participate in state legislation. I want to make it easier for the public to figure out who their representatives are and what important measures are currently in session. My dream is that QLL becomes something of a hub for progressives in Oregon who want to affect change through local legislation.
